This Maple burl vase is filled with lots of interest with different grain patterns and some holes filled with copper epoxy. Notice the copper wire stiching up the front.
This Maple burl bowl is approximately 10 1/2" in diameter and 4 1/4"' tall. The base has three feet carved into the bottom for stability if there is any wood movement. Its finished with a non toxic Danish oil.
This Maple burl bowl is approximately 7' in diameter and 2' deep. The rim had been treated with an old Japanese wood-treated method called shou sugi ban used to preserve, then hand carved.
This Acorn lidded bowl was donated to Beads of Courage, an organization that provides supportive care programs for children coping with serious illness, their families and the health care providers who care for them.
The bowl was turned from maple and the lid is burned using Pyrography to resemble an acorn.
The wood tells you what shape you can turn. It's the wood grain or the natural decay that helps creates the beauty, to emphasize the shape.
